TICL FIXTURE REPORT

“SEASON 2011/12 – WEEK 19”
w/c 23 Jan 2012

In D2s only game Stuart Smith was the Sandwich A hero with a superb knock of 58 after his team faltered losing 3 wickets for 5 runs in the sixties as Matt Van Poppel snapped up 3-13, Smith added 31 for the last wicket as his side reached 97 following a slow start as Craig Spanton returned a fine spell of 2-16.  Sandwich B were soon in trouble losing 2 early wickets with just 16 on the board as Alex Smith bowled a useful opening spell of 1 for 9, Gavin Lawrence 43 and Van Poppel 14 consolidated but Connor Summers 3-24 finished off the game with the B side 23 runs short.

In D3 Worth started well adding 57 for the first wicket as Aatif Malik 29* and Bob Spence 18 batted solidly, Arslan Sahi 17 looked to turn the game but the Pegasus fielding was sharp and 3 run outs stemmed the flow restricting the villagers to 97, Chris Ross 0-21 and Rob Haddock 1-25 were Pegasus best bowlers. The Pegasus reply saw 50 added for the first wicket as Pidduck was run out while scoring his 25th run and John Haddock who retired with 26*, at half way Pegasus were coasting but Sahi’s spell 0-8 was virtually unplayable, Pegasus were then left to score 30 from the last 2 overs with a few costly extras Rob Haddock and Ross both 14 saw the side home by virtue of losing less wickets as the final ball was played and missed.

Goodnestone conceded to Sandwich A and have subsequently withdrawn from the league, all their results will be scratched and only one team will now be relegated at the seasons end.

In D4 the Broadstairs B openers Brian Simpson and Adam Turton both retired with 25 and with Alfie Huntley adding 19 it was 80 before the first wicket fell, James Hogg 1-16 got Westgate C back in the game but Simpson 36^ and Turton 27* saw their side reach 111. Despite an early loss Alex Spokes 21 and Hogg 21 kept Westgate in the game, Gary Sandwell batted well marshalling the tail but when two wickets fell he was left on his own to score the final 7 runs but another run out saw Westgate finish 3 short with 1 ball to spare Sandwell finishing with 31 as Simpson 2-17 bowled well in the final over.

Nelson B started slowly and then Margates James Dewell 0-9 kept them further in check, Chris Hayre however batted steadily compiling a useful 40 before his team was bowled out in the final over for 91.  Margate started well and only lost one wicket as they coasted to an easy victory inside 8 overs, Brett Kirk 26* and man of the match Dewell 28* doing the damage.

In D5 Corinthian A played on all three days, on Monday they shocked high flying All Trades bowling them out for just 29 in 11 overs Ben Sear took a career best 4-6 while Kieron Ives conceded just 6 from his 3 overs and David Pay grabbed 1-4 only Nigel Drake 10 reached double figures. Corinthians lost a wicket in chasing down the runs down but Kai Appleby 16* and Pay 11* cruised home in just 3 overs.

Game number 2 saw Corinthians rattle up 156 against Margate B, they started slowly however as Debbie Daley 1-24 struck and were 2 down with 24 on the board before Dan Shepherd and Kieron Ives then took control of the game, both retiring after 63 was added for the third wicket, Carl Perez then grabbed 2-34 for Margate but Ives 60 and Shepherd 49 accelerated putting the game beyond reach. Ives then produced a match winning spell with the ball taking 3-9 as Margate collapsed to 29 for 5 Tom Chivilo then batted on his own scoring 39 before he became the third victim of Sasha Dilkes 3-13 as Margate reached 70.

The final game was a closer affair MBL’s Frazer Draper 1-19 picked up a wicket in the first over and a silly run run saw Corinthians struggling, Ben Sear 37 and Kieron Ives 36 rescued the innings after two further run outs had put the Legionaires in control with 90 on the board the total was defendable. Ives 2-11 again produced a fine spell, but Dean Drapers firm hitting saw him retire early on, the middle order scratched around until Dean Little 20 took control and when Draper returned he saw his team snatch victory in the final over despite the good spell from Sasha Dilkes 2-18.

Hartsdonians B shot out of the blocks scoring at 12 an over early on and Andy West and Steve Bing were soon both back in the hutch Todd Jordan 27 started slowly and All Trades pegged them back briefly as Gary Davies took 2-30, Jarrett Smith 32* upped the rate as West 37 and Bing 30 came back with a flourish the Old Boys finished with 154 on the board. Jordan and Smith both 0-13 ensured the Traders did not get a flyer, Steve Todd and Nigel Drake both retired with 25* and Matt Wood made 24* as All Trades reached 95 without loss.

Margate B were given a helping hand by Nelson A who sportingly conceded 35 extras in a total of 86, Carl Perez and Jack Brooks both scored with12, Reece Heatley 1-17 was pick of the Nelson bowlers.  Jefferson Hurrell 29* and Rhys Warner 25 set about the bowling and with Margate also giving away 25 extras the game was finished in the 8th over as Nelson did not lose a wicket Perez 0-16 bowled well for Margate.

Craig Alder 1-15 and Dan Carter 1-8 picked up early wickets leaving Old Hartsonians D in trouble at 8 for 2, Richard Justice consolidated but wickets fell around him Becky Belt grabbing 2-17, Justice reached 41 before he was snared by Natalie O’Connell 1-6 and the Old Boys had to defend 68.  Dumpton started well adding 43 for the first wicket as Carter made 17 and Joshua Tullett 27* man of the match Alder 16* saw the youth side home in the 10th over. Tim Davis with 1-1 may have been underused.

In the other scheduled game Margate A were unable to raise a side and conceded to Margate British Legion.
